DD6400 starts from 8TB net and scales up to 172TB<br /> - we can increase capacity in 4TB increments<br /> - other models starts from much bigger capacity apart from DD3300<br /> - DD6400 - we start from 8TB and we increase capacity with just entering license - 4TB increments<br /> - increase capacity with entering licensing is possible up to 32TB <br /> - 40TB of net capacity requires adding hardware - new shelf<br /> - than we increase capacity again but adding just license<br /> - we can say DD6400 provides "capacity on demand"<br /> - ordering DD6400 we just provide net capacity with 4TB increments</p><p>29:05 Data Domain - best market de-duplication <br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1745s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1745s<br /></a> - small variable block with global de-duplication<br /> - it writes almost no data<br /> - if we backup guest level and image level the second backup writes almost no data -> global de-duplication<br /> - source de-duplication / Virtual Synthetic<br /> - 2-3 less space than any other competition because of global de-dup / variable & small block de-duplication</p><p>29:57 Customer story and Data Domain global de-duplication<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1797s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1797s<br /></a> - 9TB VMware <br /> - first backup occupied 0.6TB (600GB) - almost nothing<br /> - 1:15 de-dup with just 1st backup<br /> - many products have issue to overcome 1:8 de-duplication with over 30 days retention<br /> - here it was just after 1st backup<br /> - Data Domain has 1:100 to 1:300 de-duplication with 30 days retention<br /> - this makes Data Domain cheap!</p><p>30:52 Small customer - 300GB of SAP/Oracle<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1852s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1852s<br /></a> - De-duplication after 4 backups was 1:15 - great one!</p><p>31:12 How much Data Domain do I need for my backups?<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1872s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1872s<br /></a> - For 10TB / 30 days retention usually we need 8TB<br /> - rule of thumb<br /> - huge small amount</p><p>31:37 Tool for sizing Data Domain - Sizer<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1897s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1897s</a></p><p>31:52 Compression card<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1912s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=1912s<br /></a> - we can even further decrease the cost!<br /> - example with VMs built from 3 blocks<br /> - if Data Domain sees a new block he must write to disk<br /> - Data Domain will compress new block further<br /> - DD6300 - lz algorithm for new blcosk - lz not very effective but very little impact on DD processor<br /> - DD6400 - compression of new blocks is made by compression card<br /> - much faster<br /> - better compression, much less space is required(gz or gzfast)<br /></p><p>33:40 How less space DD6400 takes over DD6300?<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2020s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2020s<br /></a> - Migrating from DD63300 100TB to DD6400 - DD6400 will require only 80TB space<br /> - reason -> lz compression of new blocks vs gz/gzfas on DD6400<br /> - these number are from worldwide statistics<br /> - detailed stats for files / databases<br /> - compression card is in DD6400 / DD6900 / DD9400 / DD9900<br /></p><p>35:45 Customer example tat migrated from DD4200 (no compression card) to DD6900 (with compression card<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2145s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2145s<br /></a> - Space dropped from 27TB (DD4200) to 20TB (DD6900)</p><p>36:05 Summery - DD6400 with the same net capacity is cheaper than DD6300<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2165s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2165s<br /></a> - similar price<br /> - less storage required</p><p>36:42 - Parameters of DD6400<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2202s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2202s<br /></a> - part of new models family - DD6900 / DD9400 / DD9900<br /> - DD6400 capacity from 8TB to 172TB net with increments of 4TB<br /> - capacity of other models<br /> - DD6400 uses 8TB drives<br /> - DD6400 has 270 simultaneous backups -> huge important<br /> - streams of other models<br /> - DD6400 is 2U / 3U shelf - max 2 shelves<br /> - DD6400 built in Ethernet card 10Gb -> SFP/BasetT to choose<br /> - DD6400 allows for 3 additional Ethernet cards - the same as above or 25Gb<br /> - DD6400 allows for 1 additional FC card</p><p>39:35 Additional materials<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2375s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ieVepB2kno&t=2375s</a><br />-<br />Backup and Recovery - Backup of files can be pain:<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=5s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=5s<br /></a> - load<br /> - time</p><p>0:30 - Agenda<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=30s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=30s</a></p><p>0:50 - Why do we talk about backup of files?<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=50s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=50s<br /></a> - we talk about CIFS/NFS that is tough to backup<br /> - no agent possible as for Windows NTFS use case<br /> - we have millions of files / hundreds of TB<br /> - backup is slow - even days<br /> - restore is slow, restore point is long time ago</p><p>2:58 - We talk about PowerProtect Data Manager<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=178s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=178s<br /></a> - can backup fast CIFS / NFS shares from any vendor</p><p>3:29 - Architecture of the backup file share<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=209s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=209s<br /></a> - we have FULL backup by only reading what has changed since last backup<br /> - backup is huge fast because we read only delta<br /> - PPDM performs only FULL backups - though reads only delta<br /> - no incremental / differential backups - only FULLs <br /> - huge important because FULL backups provides fastest restore and possibility for granular restore<br /></p><p>6:40 - Value<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=400s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=400s<br /></a> - no load of protected system / protected system does not feel the backup<br /> - no load of network - protected share can be far from media<br /> - backup is huge fast / I can perform backups frequently </p><p>8:12 - What does t mean that every backup is full but we read delta?<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=492s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=492s<br /></a> - if 2 files have changed, we will read just them<br /> - we have a full backup<br /> - this is magic and incredibly fantastic</p><p>10:12 - PPDM uses BOOST protocol<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=612s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=612s</a></p><p>10:25 - It is magic and fantastic!<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=625s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=625s<br /></a> - during couple of minutes we can have a full backup</p><p> 10:45 - PowerProtect Data Manager demo<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=645s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=645s<br /></a> - PPDM just controls backups - does not take part in data movement<br /> - we add a new policy for CIFS backups<br /> - we choose share<br /> - we can choose <b>synthetic full</b> - full with reading delta</p><p>12:35 - Automated dividing for streams / slices<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=755s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=755s<br /></a> - setup maximum number of streams for particular share<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=855s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=855s<br /></a> - we do not want to use to many streams for particular streams<br /> - limiting streams for a large number of TBs</p><p>16:15 - The backup is controlled by proxy<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=975s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=975s<br /></a>- PPDM controls backups from aside <br />- proxy is installed automatically from PPDM<br />- I can have many proxy - every of them is 24 streams</p><p>17:26 - This is functionality for all possible CIFS/NFS shares<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1046s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1046s<br /></a> - any CIFS any NFS on whatever storage<br /> - hardware agnostics<br /> - we can enjoy huge speed<br /> - it is just software / proxy<br /> - proxy is just Virtual Machine<br /> - we can add a new proxy / VM to add streams<br /> - 24 streams per proxy</p><p>19:12 - How many Data Domain systems are supported?<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1152s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1152s<br /></a> - as many as we want<br /> - we can use bigger one - DD9900 - almost 2000 streams</p><p>19:38 - No agent required<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1178s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1178s<br /></a> - agentless 100%<br /> - we do not install anything - also on the backed up share<br /> - adding a new share - we will se no agent is required<br /> - showing how simple is adding a new share to PowerProtect Data Manager<br /></p><p>21:20 - Proxy binaries are within PPDM<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1280s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1280s<br /></a> - demo how easy is to install the proxy</p><p>21:50 - Only first backup is reading whole data<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1310s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1310s<br /></a> - every following backup is reading change but we have a full backup</p><p>22:07 - Proxies are deployed manually<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1327s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1327s<br /></a> - we shall have more calculate how many streams we require<br /> - if we need 50 streams probably we need 3 proxies (x24 - 72 streams) - to have some buffer<br /></p><p>22:47 - What do we get? Summary:<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1367s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1367s<br /></a> - Speed <br /> - Frequent backups<br /> - All backups are FULL<br /> - showing dynamic filters live<br /> - all shares that in the name contain k8s must be automatically backed up<br /> - we see that now PPDM will backup 4 shares having k8s within name<br /> - we can also say that big shares go to one policy / small shares go to another policy<br /> - all backups from some Isilon shall go somewhere<br /> - Self backup infrastructure is available only for Unity / PowerStore / PowerScale</p><p>27:35 - What is Self-backup infrastructure?<br /><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1655s">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LETxuJZXnuA&t=1655s<br /></a> - <br />
What if my data are encrypted by ransomware?<br />
Do I have Plan B?<br />
How can I access my data?<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What if I have backups that have no chance to be ransomwared/ removed?</div>
<div>
What if I have a cyber bunker?</div>
<div>
What if I have Cyber Recovery plan?</div>
<div>
And... can it be with very attractive cost?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jtgm2WHpFPk" width="500"></iframe>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What <b><span style="color: #990000;">backup/recovery</span></b> solution can offer me in case of <span style="color: #990000;"><b>ransomware/hacker attack</b></span>?<br />
Why Plan B is important?<br />
<a href="https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=53">https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=53</a><br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #990000;">How can I </span><span style="color: #990000;">lock against ransmoware/hacker?</span></b><br />
How can I be sure that none can remove /change my backups.<br />
Can I restore in case of ransomware/hacker attack.<br />
<a href="https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=885">https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=885</a><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #990000;"><b>Bunker</b></span><b><span style="color: #990000;"><span style="color: #990000;"> in IT</span>? - Why, When, How?</span></b><br />
Can we do everything automatically?<br />
Can we control our IT over ransomware?<br />
Can we recover immediately?</div>
<div>
<a href="https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=1779">https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=1779</a><br />
<br />
All <b><span style="color: #990000;">methods to protect against ransomware/hacker</span></b><br />
<a href="https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=319">https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=319</a><br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #990000;">Hardening</span></b> - let's remember about this simple approach<br />
<a href="https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=385">https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=385</a><br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #990000;">Data Domain Snapshots </span></b><br />
No cost, no additional space, no performance degradation method to have protection of our backups<br />
<a href="https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=461">https://youtu.be/jtgm2WHpFPk?t=461</a><br />
<br />
Why <b><span style="color: #990000;">source de-duplication increases my security</span></b>?<br />

<br />
--------------<br />
<b>We can protect ourselves against ransomware/hacker</b><br />
<b>We can have plan B</b><br />
<b>We can make it easy and automated...</b><br />
<br />
Let's consider it...<br />

In September 2019 Dell announced 3 new Data Domain models (DD6900 / DD9400 / DD9900)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
</div>
Shall we take under considerations new Data Domain models?<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br />
If so why?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
What is the architecture?<o:p></o:p></div>
<br />

Recently, customer asked me the question:<br />
<i> I’m looking for a discussion document which outlines best practice for tiering backups.</i><br />
This question comes for ages.<br />
<br />
Why?<br />
Idea of tiering in backup comes from our internal dream:<br />
<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Let’s have fast, secure and good media (storage) for recent backups/data<br />
but at the same time<br />
<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Let’s keep old backups as cheap as possible<br />
<br />
Recent backups we usually keep on Data Domain (<a href="https://youtu.be/f4T5eyLz5Rs">https://youtu.be/f4T5eyLz5Rs</a>).<br />
Data Domain gives us huge performance, security, and restore.<br />
This is what we <b>require from protection production: no load, fast backup and easy, fast restore</b>.<br />
<br />
For older backups copies (archive backups) we really do not know what to do?<br />
We just need <b>old backups to keep cheap</b>...<br />
<br />
We have couple of options for storing old backups:<br />
Tape<br />
<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Object storage (local/cloud)<br />
Or maybe…<br />
<br />
Why not just keep 5 years backup on Data Domain?<br />
Local Data Domain / Data Domain in cloud – as one wishes.<br />
<br />
During one of the workshops I asked customer:<br />
<i> How long do you keep backups on Data Domain, how long on tape?</i><br />
He said:<br />
<i> Daniel, I have no time and money to play with backup tiering.</i><br />
<i> I have bought 2 Data Domains (little bigger) and I just replicate between 2 cities.</i><br />
<i> I have 90 copies on each Data Domain (30 daily for last month and 60 monthly for last 5 years)</i><br />
<i> No touch, same cost, dream life.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
My experience (I would choose it for myself) is that little bigger DD - for both production backups and archive backups - in many cases is better than tiering.<br />
<b>Money are similar, simplicity is incomparable.</b><br />
<br />
Of course, every case is different, but…<br />
<b>Most simple solutions are the best ones!</b><br />
<br />
----------<br />
And let me quote my great friend from UK:<br />
<br />
<i>When I started dealing with backup I was said that the more we retain on Data Domain, the better de-duplication is.</i><br />
<i>And that is so true…</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<i>The current push for tiering backups in reality makes more problems rather than solving any.</i><br />
<i>Tiering backup is:</i><br />
<ul>
<li><i>Expensive</i></li>
<li><i>Complicated because of restore </i></li>
<li><i>And many other compatibility issue</i></li>
</ul>
---------<br />
Why keeping last backups on great media (like Data Domain) and moving older backups to tape/object provides complication, less flexibility, additional costs?<br />
<br />
With tiering in backup, we have 2 different media, software, policies to manage those 2 different backup media?<br />
<br />
Why do we do that all complication?<br />
To make backup cheaper.<br />
<br />
But… Even <b>hard costs of tiering like additional storage (second tier) + potential licenses for tiering in many cases eat that whole difference in price</b> between 2 different media.<br />
<br />
Not mentioning soft costs like management, integration, know how, …<br />
This is what my customer just said from his experience.<br />
<br />
So having fantastic media like Data Domain, <b>we can just increase a little bit its space – not much due to de-duplication – and we can enjoy f.e. 5 years retention</b>!<br />
With no problems, no management, easy.<br />
And with similar or even less money…<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And... <b>Data Domain can be in the cloud using Object Storage as the space for backups</b>.</div>
<div>
But this something for another article...</div>
<br />
----<br />
Again:<br />
<b>Most simple solutions are the best ones!</b><br />
<br />
<i>Only successful recoveries….</i><br />

<div>

Let’s
imagine we have chosen our dreamed backup solution. It was not easy, we had to compare and
check plenty of parameters. But it is over. We know what data protection is best for us.<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Is it really
over? Can we really just wait for delivery of our preferable solution?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Unfortunately
not.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We still need to take care about:<br />
<ul>
<li>Design</li>
<li>Implementation</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">Design is important. If we do not
take care about proper design and we provide too few resources for:</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<ul>
<li>Backup server</li>
<li>Media servers</li>
<li>De-duplication pool</li>
<li>Network</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: -18pt;">
<o:p></o:p><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
we can have
poor backup/recovery performance best. More probably we will expirience instability of our backup solution or in the worst case
data loss (f.e. because of currupted de-dup database).<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Also
implementation of the above take us weeks if not months. This is pain for OS
guys, Virtualization guys, Network guys.<br />
<o:p></o:p><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Do we
really have to take risk (as company, personally) for design / implementation / maintenance? <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Is there another
approach?<o:p></o:p></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
We can buy
any capacity and upgrade as many times as we want to higher capacities. For
example:<br />
<ul>
<li>We can purchase DP4400 12TB and upgrade to 16TB</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>We can purchase DP4400 24TB net capacity</li>
<li>Upgrade to 48TB net capacity</li>
<li>And then upgrade to 72TB net capacity</li>
<li>And then upgrade to 96TB net capacity</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: -18pt;">
<o:p></o:p><br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The upgrade
is easy because DP4440 always come with full capacity:<br />
<ul>
<li>24TB net for Entry Model</li>
<li>96TB net for Full Model</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
Upgrade with the model is just by entering the license<br />
So for example upgrading from 24TB to 60TB is just entering the license.<br />
<br />
If we want to upgrade from entry level model (24TB) to full model (96TB) we get couple of disks that we or Dell put in and that is all!<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #333399; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%;">How big DP4400 do I need to protect my environment?</span></b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
You shall
contact Dell EMC or Dell EMC partner for sizing DP4400 for your environment. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Anyhow, the
rule of thumb tells us the DP4400 24TB net allows us to protect 25TB
environment with 30 days retention and 10TB environment with 5 years retention. The same proportion we can use for bigger capacities.<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #333399; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 107%;">What is the price?</span></b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
For price
you shall contact Dell EMC. Vendor claims that price is very attractive – less
than buying components separately.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
But we shall
take under consideration that within the price we get:<br />
<ul>
<li>No risk approach (full power, made by factory)</li>
<li>Implementation / configuration</li>
<li>All the hardware resources for backup/recovery
solution</li>
</ul>

DPS DD VE - video:<br />
<a href="https://youtu.be/e8zMkouyBu8">https://youtu.be/e8zMkouyBu8</a><br />
<br />
-----------<br />
What if we need a backup solution for start:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• for couple of servers<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• best of breed technology<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• easy<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
And of course at the great price!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
It makes sense to have a look at <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> package, which includes top backup solutions on the market:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>Data Domain</b> Virtual Edition (DDVE) - backup medium<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>Avamar</b> - backup software<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>RecoverPoint for Virtual Machine</b> (RP4VM) - backup/DR solution recovering VMs to any point from the past<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>DP Search</b> (Search) - finding any info in backups, great for GDPR<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>DP Central</b> / <b>DP Advisor</b> (Central/Advisor) - monitoring / reporting<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Licensing<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> is licensed per number of physical processors (occupied sockets). <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
So to get the price for <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> for our environment we <b>need to perform 2 simple steps</b>:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="text-indent: -18pt;"><b>Count all the physical processors in protected environment </b><div style="text-indent: -24px;">
<i><b> </b>We should know it easily</i></div>
</span></li>
<li><span style="text-indent: -18pt;"><b>Multiply “single processor price” by “number of physical processors”</b><div style="text-indent: -24px;">
<i><b> </b>We can get single processor price from our integrator / distributor</i></div>
</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
And that is all. We have the price for DDVE / Avamar / RP4VM / Search / Central / Advisor for our environment. Those solutions have included all possible features & modules!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">What is the price for a single processor in</span> </b><b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span> </b><b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">package?</span><o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
I checked and… I was shocked! Really makes sense to ask IT integrators / distributors for <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> single physical processor price.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
For those who know the super price-attractive DPS4VM license package (<a href="https://youtu.be/MUWO46p4iy8">https://youtu.be/MUWO46p4iy8</a>), I can tell you that DPS DD VE is lots of cheaper!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">How does the typical backup architecture look like when using <span style="color: #0070c0;">DPS DD VE</span>?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Let's consider the below environment:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiGJxJqXLn85lwCbgezhIrkm2JWCQa1uFg7bf1cE_leh680asr6IQSpF2v2jZP4uLoUTMa579Ge4_cIItircGlRx3oUEyzSFwuY0uCH1-izNaO4t7N3wbdbskrpynL6ikhwvrypQz8U3ht/s1600/DPS_DD_VE_environment.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="623" data-original-width="1148" height="345" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiGJxJqXLn85lwCbgezhIrkm2JWCQa1uFg7bf1cE_leh680asr6IQSpF2v2jZP4uLoUTMa579Ge4_cIItircGlRx3oUEyzSFwuY0uCH1-izNaO4t7N3wbdbskrpynL6ikhwvrypQz8U3ht/s640/DPS_DD_VE_environment.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
In the above example, we have 2 sites and totally we have in both locations:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• 5 physical servers with Virtual Machines (number of virtual machines does not matter)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• 3 standalone servers <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b><span style="color: #660000;">16 physical processors totally (16 occupied sockets)</span> - This is the only important thing from licensing perspective</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• 14TB data to backup<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Having:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> for <b><span style="color: #660000;">16 physical processors in our environmen</span></b>t<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• storage space for Data Domain Virtual Edition (DDVE)</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• providing 2 virtual machines per site (for Avamar / DDVE)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
we have a full backup solution with best features on the market:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm7Qt7T0uCGPZOjlC-mSTc08W9-eGRwp0HTqLxxOyHADcrmm59zIWpSSslxR95ObaQ6798XZt1d3l-A7yyQEL-oMHTGlst0QNomzibGK5GbIImcxW_X3VAiy8xBvzE_TPu_tILWK-loT4X/s1600/DPS_DD_VE_environment_features.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="636" data-original-width="1245" height="324" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm7Qt7T0uCGPZOjlC-mSTc08W9-eGRwp0HTqLxxOyHADcrmm59zIWpSSslxR95ObaQ6798XZt1d3l-A7yyQEL-oMHTGlst0QNomzibGK5GbIImcxW_X3VAiy8xBvzE_TPu_tILWK-loT4X/s640/DPS_DD_VE_environment_features.png" width="640" /></a></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Avamar & Data Domain Virtual Edition – which are included within <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> – they have all possible features and functions. Dell EMC did not limit anything that Avamar / DDVE provides. For example, we can enjoy:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• Automatic backup of newly created virtual machines<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://youtu.be/iIXs1CzqSiI">https://youtu.be/iIXs1CzqSiI</a></div>

• Disaster Recovery with minimal data transfer (1%)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• 100 - 1000 virtual machines FULL backup per hour<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• Restore a single file, restore of single email, restore of single SQL table image level backups</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• Simultaneous image backup / guest backup at no additional cost (global de-duplication)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• Backup of physical servers with all available Avamar agents<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• The highest performance on the market</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
• Finding any phrase in backed up documents (Search module – GDPR ready)</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• Over 300 ready reports in DPA<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• ...<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Additionally, apart from the above, the package contains all functionalities of RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines (RP4VM) - another top market solution.<br />
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">What exactly do we get within <span style="color: #0070c0;">DPS DD VE</span> package?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> is license package calculated per physical processor. We need to purchase <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> for number of processors that we have in protected environment.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
When purchasing <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> license we get the following solutions:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>DDVE (Data Domain Virtual Edition) - 2TB DDVE for each physical processor<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<i>For example if we buy DPS DD VE for 10 processors, we get 20 TBs of Data Domain Virtual Edition<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>Avamar<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
All functionalities, all modules, all possibilities for a protected environment<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
2 Avamar backup servers: one for Primary Site and one for Disaster Recovery site<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
• <b>RP4VM (RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines)<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
15 VMs per each physical processor<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<i>For example if we buy DPS DD VE for 10 processors, we can protect 150 VMs with RP4VM.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b>• Search<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Find phrases in backuped documents (GDPR)<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b>• DPA (Data Protection Advisor) / DPC (Data Protection Central)<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Monitoring, reporting, warning, single pane of control<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<b>What if my environment grow?</b><br />
If we grow from 15 servers to 40 servers - no problem. It is just enough to purchase missing physical processor.<br />
Having bigger environment, we have bigger expectations towards backup. We can attach Data Domain appliance instead of using DDVE. And we can enjoy:<br />
<ul>
<li>ransomware protection</li>
<li>starting VMs from Data Domain with SSD speed (no recovery required)</li>
<li>separate backup medium from production</li>
<li>...</li>
</ul>
So in future, while growing, no change to our environment - just replacing media. Backup software, interface, all features - it stays with us. We already have the enterprise ones!<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Who shall be interested within DPS DD VE?</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
In my opinion, the package is great for:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Environments having 1-20 physical servers with any number of Virtual Machines</li>
<li>New companies, just creating their infrastructure</li>
<li>Remote offices</li>
<li><i>F.e. we do not want to invest a lot in remote office or we do not want to put any additional backup hardware to remote office</i></li>
<li>Separated environments from main Data Centers required their own infrastructure</li>
<li>Environments required protection with minimal investments</li>
<li>VxRail, Nutanix, any hyper converged infrastructures …</li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

I think that especially <b>Cloud Providers shall have a close look at this package</b>. Why? <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> is</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Extremely cost effective</li>
<li>Powerful</li>
<li>Easy to divide for tenants</li>
</ul>
<span style="text-align: justify;">I have talked </span>with<span style="text-align: justify;"> my friend from Cloud Provider. He compared </span><b style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">DPS DD VE</span></b><span style="text-align: justify;"> against another solution. </span><b style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">DPS DD VE</span></b><span style="text-align: justify;"> was 25K Euro cheaper for 5 years assuming 20 physical processor customer. And he said that DPS DD VE functionalities are absolutly #1.</span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
Again. Have a close look at <b><span style="color: #0070c0; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">DPS DD VE</span></b> - a very strong package.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
And the price? Check, you can be surprised…<o:p></o:p></div>

Recently, my partner called me and asked if NetWorker can backup SAP:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->Sure! <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->But I am talking about SAP <b>WITH ORACLE</b> – Oracle platform was emphasized<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->Still, this is standard for NetWorker…<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->Hm… Can you make Proof of Concept (PoC) at customer site? <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
What occurred?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Another solution could NOT perform a single backup during 6 months! During another 2 months, this vendor could NOT perform restore!!!<br />
And it was just 300GB SAP/Oracle.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
This made customer wondering:<br />
Is it standard on the market? Or maybe I can still expect easy backup & restore of my SAP/Oracle.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Even more interesting was the next part of the conversation:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->Let’s meet with the customer. I explain how backup works with SAP/Oracle, what is required, what can we expect – I proposed the fair approach<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->No – the answer was very strict<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 20.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->-<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]-->It cannot be NO... Before anyone (customer, you, me) invest in tests, I want to explain what we will achieve after PoC. If fine, I have no problem to prove the architecture in tests.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 2.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 2.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm;">
Customer was desperate to see that its SAP/Oracle can be easily backup&restore. Functionalities, performance did not matter. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 2.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 2.4pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm;">

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
-------<br />
We have available a new Data Domain model: <b>DD3300</b>. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
DD3300 replaces existing DD2200. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>DD3300 gives a wide choice of capacities</b>. We have 3 variants:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 35.7pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -17.85pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]--><span style="font-family: "symbol"; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;">·<span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span></span><!--[endif]-->DD3300 <b>4TB net <o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 24px; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 35.7pt; text-indent: -17.85pt;">
<span style="font-family: "symbol";">·<span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span></span>DD3300 <b>16TB net</b></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 35.7pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -17.85pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]--><span style="font-family: "symbol"; mso-bidi-font-family: Symbol; mso-fareast-font-family: Symbol;">·<span style="font-family: "times new roman"; font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span></span><!--[endif]-->DD3300 32<b>TB net</b></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The values above gives us info, how much <b>net space we have for de-duplicated backups</b>. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
As we know, <b>Data Domain is extremely efficient de-duplicator</b>, so the question is:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 36.0pt;">
<b>How can I judge, which of DD3300 fits to my environment?<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Best approach is to use Dell EMC sizer via partners / integrators / distributors.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Anyhow below there is simple “rule of thumb”:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 35.7pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -17.85pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->a.<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]--><b>DD3300 4TB</b> net fits to <b>environments between 0TB to 6TB</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 35.7pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -17.85pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->b.<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]--><b>DD3300 16TB</b> net fits to <b>environments between 3TB to 20TB</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; margin-left: 35.7pt; margin-right: 0cm; margin-top: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; text-indent: -17.85pt;">
<!--[if !supportLists]-->c.<span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal;"> </span><!--[endif]--><b>DD3300 32TB</b> net fits to <b>environments between 12TB to 40TB</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Number of TB in size of environment above means how much data we have on production to protect (front data). In other words this is the size of single full backup of all my data (without any compression / de-duplication). <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
For example, having VMware 8TB large and 2TB on standalone servers, it means I have environment with 10TB production data all together. And probably I shall think about DD3300 16TB.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Another question is, <b>how long can I keep backups on DD3300?</b><br />
<b>Customers keep backups on Data Domain from 14 days to 5 years or even longer</b>. The most common retention is 30 days.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If we want to keep data for long (years) on DD300, we shall choose for sure higher capacities (for example DD3300 16TB net for environment 5TB large). <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
If 1 month retention is fine for us usually DD3300 16TB is fine for environment about 12-17TB.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Again best is to use sizer from partners / vendor.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
------<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<b>Let’s have a look at speed of new DD3300:<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht0npvs9NgY40JaiVnclwuL6uvJAMqVcq3e1FEr__gdZmiB8vQ6eDOfF8NVj_fbkDBTQp2G1_oPylPz8XWu0fMM-iFLMtDdIMvWZyTOHM-gn0arXuJSUu_s4LxEVsEOfoFKcI6dYK8L2l9/s1600/DD3300.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="217" data-original-width="1436" height="96" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht0npvs9NgY40JaiVnclwuL6uvJAMqVcq3e1FEr__gdZmiB8vQ6eDOfF8NVj_fbkDBTQp2G1_oPylPz8XWu0fMM-iFLMtDdIMvWZyTOHM-gn0arXuJSUu_s4LxEVsEOfoFKcI6dYK8L2l9/s640/DD3300.png" width="640" /></a><o:p> </o:p>DD3300 offers huge 7TB/h backup speed. It means that FULL backup of 30TB environment we can have in something like 4 hours!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
Anyhow, I would like to point to number of streams. DD3300 16/32 net gives us 90 parallel backup streams. Having good backup software we are able to backup almost 100 Virtual Machines in the same time! </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
Or backup 80VMs and restore 20 VMs...<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
When you choose backup solution, take care about number of parallel backup streams. This gives huge flexibility for simultaneous backup / recovery / replication. It is even more important parameter than backup speed itself...<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
------<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<b>CloudTier - automated moving old backups to S3 storage<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
DD3300 has built-in export of old backup to cheap S3 storage. This is called CloudTier.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
So if we have long retention for backups (years), DD3300 will automatically move backups older than a month (for example) to S3 storage making free space for fresh backups.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
No additional hardware is required, anyhow we need a license.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
-----<br />
What about the upgrades? <b>Can I upgrade between DD3300 variants? <o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The possible scenarios are as following:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>If we have bought DD3300 4TB net.<br />We can upgrade from DD3300 4TB net to DD3300 16TB net.</li>
<li>If we have bought DD3300 16TB net.<br />We can upgrade from DD3300 16TB net to DD3300 32TB net.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Upgrade can be performed by:</div>
<ul>
<li>Dell EMC / authorized partner</li>
<li>By customers<br />Dell EMC provides tutorials (pdf / video) how to add disks / memory…</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">

<br />
<br />
There has been released a new version of NetWorker 9.2 with plenty nice features.<br />
You will find list all of them at the bottom.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Anyhow, at the beginning, let me dig into 2 most interesting aspects of the new NetWorker 9.2:<o:p></o:p><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>De-duplication to S3 storage</li>
<li>Ransomware/hacker protection</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
-----<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="font-size: large;">Backup to S3 storage with source de-duplication</span><span style="font-size: 13pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
NetWorker can use S3 storage in the same way as Data Domain. So if we store backups on S3 storage we can enjoy:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>De-duplication</li>
<li>Source de-duplication<br />NetWorker sends to S3 storage only small, new data fragments that are not yet existing on S3 disk system</li>
<li>ClientDirect<br />Each protected machine sends its data directly S3 storage</li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
What is the value?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Why the backup to S3 media with source de-duplication is so important for us?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ol>
<li>Reducing cost of storage / network<br />S3 storage is the cheapest medium.<br />In addition, thanks to source de-duplication, we minimize network costs, backup media.</li>
<li>Minimizing cost of cloud data backup<br />If we do backup resources located in the cloud (Amazon / Azure / ...), then S3 storage is the cheapest medium available in the public cloud. With source de-duplication, we additionally highly reduce the cost of backup storage and the cost of the cloud network – 2 most important cost factors.</li>
<li>Accelerating backups<br />Storage S3 is cheap and secure. However, it is not the fastest medium. De-duplication on the source allows us to send / write to S3 storage very minimum amount of data. Thus, anyhow we achieve very good performance. Why? Because of source de-duplication, there is almost no data sent, no data writing so speed of the network / storage is not important. The performance is maybe not as huge as with Data Domain but better than using ordinary disk.</li>
<li>Disaster Recovery for cloud data<br />What if we need to protect data in the cloud locally, in our Data Center?<br />NetWorker can do that easily and in very cheap way. We have several scenarios to choose from:</li>
<ul>
<li>Backup our cloud data to our Data Center (S3 storage) with source de-duplication</li>
<li>Backup to S3 storage in the cloud and than replica to our Data Center (all the way de-duplicated data)</li>
</ul>
</ol>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Briefly: NetWorker is the fastest and cheapest solution for cloud backups!</b><br />
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
One of my friends backs up old, archive files directly to S3 storage using NetWorker. and having all the values:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>ClientDirect</li>
<li>De-duplication on the source</li>
<li>Bypassing any other media: Data Domain, disks or tape</li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
He finds this very cool thing because:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>For archive data, he does not need huge backup / restore performance -> he does not need Data Domain</li>
<li>Backup is simple with a few clicks to make it</li>
<li>He has Disaster Recovery within the solution</li>
<li>The cheapest possible backup cost!</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
---------</div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large; line-height: 107%;">Protection against ransomware / hacker</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Having NetWorker / Data Domain, we are sure that even in the case of ransomware or hacker attacks, our backups are safe.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
In NetWorker 9.2 – besides regular retention - we can also define blocking time for our backups. What does it mean blocking backups? For example, we can say to NetWorker:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 36.0pt;">
Please keep my backups for 5 years, but for 14 days do not allow anyone to change/ delete those particular backups. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
In this case neither the virus nor the hacker nor us (administrators) can delete/change the backups within the defined 14 days.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV0Ni7ZA8Z-BPrlbBJuzyAKgK3MFxirWY1EN1Ng1DA2itbB6_baw_Yl1E2pxFQJZrE-F8czd-gthD7r3i4CPW8KOxh1fDQxN0CjMggF74wa9EEMOt776Rp6-we0W9LJCPFHEf-aaN2GB9i/s1600/RansomwareProtection.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="751" data-original-width="1600" height="187" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV0Ni7ZA8Z-BPrlbBJuzyAKgK3MFxirWY1EN1Ng1DA2itbB6_baw_Yl1E2pxFQJZrE-F8czd-gthD7r3i4CPW8KOxh1fDQxN0CjMggF74wa9EEMOt776Rp6-we0W9LJCPFHEf-aaN2GB9i/s400/RansomwareProtection.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is standard NetWorker functionality available at no extra charge / license.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>At the backup price we have an additional layer of protection against cyber-attacks.<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
This is also important from GDPR perspective.<br />
One of the requirements is to provide security and data integrity.<br />
<div>

<b>NetWorker & VMware</b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
NetWorker is
currently one of the fastest backup solution for VMware environments:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Backup 6000 Virtual Machines in the environment
without any problem</li>
<li>100 virtual machines backed up in parallel</li>
<li><b style="text-indent: -18pt;"><span style="color: #c00000;">Full backup</span></b><span style="text-indent: -18pt;"> of </span><b style="text-indent: -18pt;">500 virtual machines per hour</b><span style="text-indent: -18pt;"> in real environment (change ratio of
3% - 5%)</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Film / presentation<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Video
describing NetWorker capabilities in VMware:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 36.0pt;">
<a href="https://www.dellemc.com/en-emea/events/webinar/cee.htm#270019">https://www.dellemc.com/en-emea/events/webinar/cee.htm#270019</a><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Presentation
used during the movie:<o:p></o:p><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 36pt;">
<a href="http://gurago.com/networker/1_NetWorkerVMware_ArchitectureValueDemo.pdf">http://gurago.com/networker/1_NetWorkerVMware_ArchitectureValueDemo.pdf</a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Full backup - is it important?<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Why do I
underline that every VMware backup using NetWorker is <b><span style="color: #c00000;">full backup</span></b>?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Restore from
full backup is the fastest possible. Just because we restore from single, full
copy, we have several hours faster recovery.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
And
recovery, restore time - this is the most important parameter.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Start virtual machines without recovery?
Faster with backup than production?<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
What if we
need to restore the virtual machine immediately? For example:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Disaster Recovery in the remote center</li>
<li>Analysis of the situation from the historical
moment</li>
<li>Tests / Development</li>
<li>...</li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
NetWorker /
Data Domain offers immediate start of virtual machines just from the backup, without
any data restoration.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
And important:
Virtual Mahines started from NetWorker/Data Domain have huge performance:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>1,000 IOPS (DD6300)</li>
<li>10 000 IOPS for DD9800</li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
It can be faster
than real production!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Security<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
NetWorker /
Data Domain offers <b>protection against ransomware / hacker attacks</b>. We are sure
that neither ransmoware nor hacker (even if he has access to the top level admin
passwords) will not delete the backups.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
So even if ransomware
has encrypted all the production data or hacker erased all the production data
- we can always restore from NetWorker/Data Domain! Here data are secure!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Is it
difficult to set it up? Just one click away. See slide 51 and further:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; text-indent: 36.0pt;">
<a href="http://gurago.com/networker/1_NetWorkerVMware_ArchitectureValueDemo.pdf">http://gurago.com/networker/1_NetWorkerVMware_ArchitectureValueDemo.pdf</a><br />
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Availability<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Imagine that
the connection between VMware and backup medium has crashed. NetWorker, without
interrupting the backup, directs the data transfer to another available
connection to the medium. Backup is successful though the one of connection
crashed.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The result:
Our SLA is still 100%!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Distribution of traffic<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
NetWorker
uses lightweight proxy to backup 25 VMware virtual machine in parallel.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
We can
implement for example 8 such machines and <b>enjoy
100 parallel backups (10 times more than market average)</b>. NetWorker automatically
distributes backups / restores between all 8 proxies.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Again: The
failure of a single proxy does not affect the backup. We still have 100% SLA
backup / restore.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Wizards <o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Every
function is available with wizards (shown in the movie / presentation):</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Running Virtual Machine directly from backup
(1,000 IOps to 10,000 IOps)</li>
<li>Repairing (reverting) virtual machine (few
minutes for 1TB VM)</li>
<li>Restoring virtual machine to new instance</li>
<li>Restoring single file</li>
<li>Restoring virtual machine without vCenter
(Emergency Restore)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<b>Simplicity<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
The whole VMware
backup configuration is extremely simple - as any other backup in NetWorker. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Below screen
shows how easy is to achieve in NetWorker the most advanced backup / Disaster
Recovery strategy:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Backup to local medium (Data Domain) in a
primary location (1 month retention)</li>
<li>Disaster Recovery: Replication to Data Domain at
remote location (2 weeks retention)</li>
<li>Local tape out (5 years retention)</li>
<li>Remote tape out (10 years retention)</li>
</ul>
<div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-add-space: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -18.0pt;">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
All in just few
clicks. We can define:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>When the replica / tape out should happen</li>
<li>Retention</li>
<li>Which virtual machines shall be backed up / have
Disaster Recovery / taped out</li>
<li>…</li>
</ul>
